Visualization and Analytics Engineer | Raytheon | Princeton, NJ

Raytheon's diverse team thrives in the rapidly changing technology fields, fast-paced working environments and demanding learning atmospheres inherent in the HPC/HEC arena. Raytheon is seeking highly skilled and motivated HPC/HEC Application Analysts interested in joining an enthusiastic team to provide all encompassing HPC/HEC Scientific Visualization and Analytics support services to the NOAA Research and Development High Performance Computing System (R&D HPCS) at NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL) in Princeton NJ.

Job Description:
The Visualization and Analytics Engineer is responsible for enhancing the scientific and engineering use of HPC/HEC systems by advancing the understanding of results and behavior of large-scale numerical calculations. Duties include:
  • Creating informative visualizations for research and presentations.
  • Developing application specific techniques to aid scientists and HPC/HEC users in furthering their understanding of their large scale computational models.
  • Applying visualization and analytics tools for rapid turnaround and increased productivity of computational models.
  • Researching and implementing tools and techniques for exploratory data analysis.
  • Developing approaches and strategies for processing very large data sets.
  • Applying visualization and analytics to the real time and trend monitoring of systems and applications executing on them.
  • Other related duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills:

Qualified candidates must have the following:
  • A Bachelor's degree or higher in Physical, Mathematical, or Computational Sciences or related engineering fields is required, with a minimum of four 4 to 6 years experience providing Visualization and Analytics services in an HPC/HEC environment. Professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree. This position will be commensurate with skills, experience and education.
  • Expertise in scientific and informational visualization applications & tools (e.g. OpenGL, IDL, VTK, etc.).
  • Expertise working in *NIX operating system environments; parallel programming experience (OpenMP, MPI, etc); demonstrated ability to design and implement substantive visualization or analytics software in Fortran, C, C++, Java, and specialized visualization/analytics languages.
  • Excellent scripting language programming abilities (e.g. Shell, Perl, Python, Ruby).
  • Experience with scientific data management technology and scientific data models (e.g. netCDF, HDF).
  • Excellent written & verbal communication, interpersonal, and team interaction skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to deliver tasks on-time, manage multiple efforts and work with minimal supervision.

Qualified applicants may be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information. U.S. Citizenship is required.

Desired Skills:
  • Previous experience in an HPC/HEC environment providing visualization and analytics support for scientific computing applications in agencies such as NASA, NOAA or the DoD.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively learn, adapt to and use new hardware and software technologies; and a demonstrated record of professional recognition especially through peer reviewed publications.
  • Recognized as an authority and contributor in the field of scientific visualization and analytics.
